Tay's Tue Cents: BOH/KOL at BOK Edition

Hello again loyal TTC readers, welcome back! Before we get started, I just wanted to remind you all that Taylor’s Tue Cents has a twitter (TaylorsTueCents) and it would be seaux kool if you and your friends would follow me. I’ve been slackin’ pretty hard on tweeting much from that, but I’ll get better. I’m not promising anything, but I promise. What?

This last Friday my girlfriend and I went to Tulsa for the Band of Horses and Kings of Leon concert that was just magnificent. I don’t know what the tour is called, but if I were naming it, it would be called the “Noun of Noun Tour.” Going to a concert in a difference city than the city you live in is always more fun, and I’m pretty sure it makes the music sound better. There’s scientific proof I think.

Crowds at shows are usually pretty weird, but this one was REAL weird. You had the hipsters who only came to see Band of Horses because Kings of Leon had a song on the radio, the annoying old moms who get drunk and try to relive their teenage years, the old guy who still smokes pot, and the people who spent $50 on tickets to hear “Use Somebody”, have no idea who the other band is, dress up in dresses and heels, and dance like they’re in a club. Now, I definitely wouldn’t say that I’m a music snob, but it got annoying hearing cake-faces say “Have you like, heard this song before?” all night. Other than that it was awesome!

Band of Horses were fantastic. Their music isn’t very complex as far as the instruments go, so they can easily play a concert no matter how big the arena and it will sound almost exactly like the recording. They sounded great, and the background images fit the music they were accompanying very well. Totally rad, dude.

During the intermission, as I was getting a chicken tender basket with a mountain dew (delish), I saw something very familiar out the corner of my eye. When I realized what my eyes had discovered I thought to myself, “no.. it’s not possible.. Could it be?” A very handsome fellow wearing a Tree & Leaf shirt! We’re international, people. Global. Better reco’nize.

After getting kicked out of other people’s seats pretty consistently, trying to get a good spot for the grand finale, we decided to just go back down to the floor. Then not too long after we had found a pretty good spot Kings of Leon (French for “tiger” I’m pretty sure) took to the stage and started it up with the drum-driven song, “Crawl”. They played a HUGE set and it was filled with both newer and older songs. The crowd was very into it, as you will see below, and it made for a great experience.

I was really impressed with the quality of the sound as it was in a sold out BOK Center, which is like Tulsa’s Ford Center. The lights were great, and the video on the side screens were really entertaining and helped my frustrations whenever some giant decided he needed to move, like there was someone taller than him in his way… psh. It always makes me laugh when bands step off the stage like “OK we’re leaving now! See ya!”, because everyone knows you’re coming back. We know we didn’t cheer you back on ok, just finish. The night ended exactly as I wanted it to. With fireworks. Literally.

I’m not a star, somebody lied, I gotta chopper in the car.

Has anyone else noticed that Dwight Schrute is behind the guy wearing the t&l shirt?!
